Abstract

This article presents an approximation to the diegesis of both objective and subjective realities within the fictional patterns of the novel "El viajero de la alfombra mágica" by the Chilean author of Palestinian descent Walter Garib. This work explores the theme of Arab migration in Chile in the context of disaffiliation, the incorporation to a different reality, social climbing, social sanctioning and the defense of the conservation of a part of the national identity. Through the travels of the Arab to South America and to Chile in particular, this novel manifests the universal human condition: the migrant and descending being.
