Abstract

This paper tries to bind the act of asking with violence. The four questions of Pessah or Passover («Mah Nishtanah?») that have become traditional are a basis for understanding a Talmudic interpretation of these questions and its primary intention. In this way, the Talmudic passage of Rabbi Yanai and the question asked by his son on Passover eve, serves to exemplify what can be made with questions in this specific context, but also in others. The violence of a sincere question that deconstructs will be opposed to the lame pre made questions that children have to memorize for the beginning of the holy day. The text ends up with a reflection upon freedom and Passover inspired by E. Lévinas.
